Daytona Bike Week was first started in 1937 when the first Daytona 200 motorcycle race was held on the white sands of Daytona a Beach Florida on Jan. 24th. Now some 70 years later that gathering of a few motorcycle enthusiasts has blossomed into one of the best attended motorcycle rallies in the world.
Competing with Sturgis Rally and Races, Daytona Bike Week is considered one of “the big two” motorcycle events attracting upwards of 550,000 annually to beautiful sunny Florida in early March.
With literally hundreds of venues and events, Bike Week is the place to be in March if you are a Harley Davidson enthusiast. Bikers from around the word gather for bike shows, scenic rides through the beautiful central Florida countryside, and visits to hundreds of biker haunts that keep riders busy “running their traps” for a visit with old friends.
Famous biker bars like the Boot Hill Saloon, Froggys, Dirty Harrys, and the Iron Horse give bikers that “rush” that seems to only be available at a few selected biker locations around the world. Added with the warm Florida sun, many Bike Week riders get their first taste of the warm upcoming riding season while in Daytona.
In recent years, the local Harley Davidson dealer Bruce Rossmeyer opened the most impressive biker destination on earth with the largest HD dealership in the world, Destination Daytona. Along with industry giants J and P Cycles, and Arlen Ness, Rossmeyer has built a multi faceted “motorcycle world” with motorcycle dealerships, camping, restaurants, parts and accessory stores, and entertainment venues. With literally 100’s of vendors on hand, this gathering of motorcycle products vendors is the largest motorcycle gathering anywhere.. Destination Daytona is located just north of Daytona in Ormond Beach on I 95 and US HWY 1.
With many local campgrounds and hotels to choose from, the city of Daytona and the surrounding areas offer everything an experienced tourist area can with ample restaurants, hotels, and enough local attractions to keep experienced rally goers busy for days. Whether it’s the lure of the white sand beaches, the hammock covered roads of the famous Loop, or a short ride to Orlando’s Disney World, central Florida has everything to offer visitors a great motorcycle rally getaway.
